Hello,

I have an idea about a feature I'd like to see in SkyDemon. Let's see what the others think about it.

I bet in every country there are at least some airspaces (danger or restricted areas or TSAs...) that are either active only some days/hours per week or are triggered by a NOTAM.

Why not to allow the user to decide (for sake of clarity and readability of the map) which concrete airspaces to depict on the map and which not? Here I am speaking about a custom decision for instance not to depict a military low-flying corridor that is not active that concrete day. Now, it is only possible either to see the week-days or week-end views. Nothing in between.

Why this feature? For instance in France or Belgium not all the military airspaces are active all at the same time. I'd then "hide" all those that are not active for the time of my flight to have the map unclattered and easier to read.

How to do it? I can imagine for instance a right-click on an airspace (in map or Enroute Features window) and selecting "hide airspace".

Risks and safeguards? Of course there is a risk the user would "hide" an airspace by a mistake. Therefore, I would suggest to make the user confirm his decision and then somewhere (on the map, while going to the printing options, when downloading new weather, on the print-outs...) to display a warning that some airspaces were hidden by the user. A simple click would then allow to unhide all airspaces and to get to the default view.

What do you think? Did I drink too much today or you share my view? Smile

Could be something in that? French airspace looks very confusing but from previous experience a lot of military restricted areas are night time flying only. If night flying turned off it looks a lot simpler for VFR/Day pilots.

Hello,

I am with the other posters.

Its 2014 now and has this request been honored by SkyDemon?
I am a VFR pilot (2500 hours total time) and flying in France will really make VFR a lot easier with this feature.

I would also like to add that showing NOTAMS on the map in red does not help.
Can this color also be changed?

Other products, like PocketFMS, have the possibility to change colors of restricted and prohibited air spaces, for example in yellow and red.

Thanks for your consideration.

Safe flying!

Isn't there an option where you can select which TYPE of airspace you want shown on the map already? Granted, it won't allow you to hide an individual airspace but you can, for example select all military airspace to be hidden or shown.

As only one person agreed this feature would be useful, it did not get implemented. We have thousands of subscribers and only features useful to a significant percentage of those people get implemented.

John, the most useful SkyDemon airspace feature in France is the ability to turn off all airspace that isn't active at weekends. A lot of French airspace then disappears. If you have other specific criteria about French airspace which you believe it would be useful to hide, please do share them.

Hi Tim,

I understand the weekend option. But I went there a number of times outside the weekend.
And in Belgium, south East of Brussels, it stays a mess even with the weekend option on.
Really confusing.

Most of those restricted areas are activated by NOTAM or day/night (ckurz7000) . As SkyDemon also gets the NOTAM and knows the time of the flight, why not combine that knowledge.

Like I said in my post, just having different colors assigned to restricted (yellow) and prohibited (red) would help tremendously.

Airspaces activated by NOTAM are drawn faded out, so they are less prominent. The latest version of SkyDemon draws restricted areas with hatched outlines whereas prohibited areas are solid, so that should help. Perhaps you could post a screenshot of the affected area?

Concerning the military restricted areas, in the French SIA site it is possible to get the real active zones quite easily.
http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/asp/frameset_fr.asp?m=39
It is possible to getp instant information of the active zones for a precise day and time. I believe it should be great to show this directly in the SkyDemon Chart. It would be really useful.

You can already use SkyDemon's map menu to go straight to that website, if you bring up the menu for such a restricted area on iOS or Android. I am not aware of a direct data feed from France we could use to directly show the status of a piece of airspace.
